April Walker was responsible for dressing so many in the hip-hop community. Her store Fashion in Effect was the place break dancers, rappers and singers would come to so she could make outfits for them. Walker Wear was the design to wear and she made sure to keep her clothing fresh for her clients.

Walker was one of the first designers to use acrylic, airbrush and stud out shirts as well as pants. Her store was like a haven for hip-hop. She said the racial issues and similar things we are going through now is the message behind her clothing. Walker mentioned “Fight the power” was the words behind it.
