In 1962, 19-year-old Joe Biden took a job as a lifeguard at a city pool in Wilmington, Delaware, one summer when he was home from college. In a speech he recently gave at the pool, he explained that the experience taught him a lot about black people, as he was the only white person employed there, and experienced no discrimination.
