When professional golf legend Tiger Woods first began breaking records and dominating the sport, he did so as black man, and even reaching back to thank black athletes before him who tore down racial barriers. He was a hero for his black audiences, for whom it was a rarity- to say the least -to see a black man on anybody’s golf course. Then, from The Oprah Show, Tiger Woods shared with everyone the made up name he made for his race, “Cablinasian,” which read as a rejection letter to the black community. He’s been a controversial figure ever since.
