The Lonely Island, comprised of funny-men Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, exploded onto the scene with gut-busting comedy on SNL in 2005. A lot of their hit songs, such as “Jizz In My Pants,” “Mother Lover,” “I Just Had Sex,” and many others, which sometimes featured celebs like Justin Timberlake and T-Pain, ended up going viral. In their time at SNL, they created three studio albums, a big name and promising careers for themselves.

Now, they are getting set for the release of their feature film, “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping,” which they wrote, directed, and produced, along with co-produce Judd Apatow. They talk about being inspired by the phenomena of self-manned pop-star documentaries, and choosing to base their movie on that in order to showcase their songs in the right medium. Plus, they talk about having known each other since a very young age, their decades-long group text, who gets on who’s nerves the most.
