According to MissInfo.tv, various sources have said that the rapper pulled the trigger in self-defense, however, that has not yet been confirmed by authorities.
It was previously reported that the shooting escalated from a fight that took place backstage. Reports said that members of Maino‘s crew and Troy Ave’s crew got into an altercation that spilled over into the crowd, resulting in gunfire. Maino has since taken to social media, debunking reports that neither he, nor his crew were involved.
New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton has addressed the recent shooting. During a recent radio interview, Bratton said, “The crazy world of these so-called rap artists who are basically thugs that basically celebrate violence they did all their lives, and unfortunately that violence often times manifests itself during their performances, and that’s exactly what happened last evening.”
