At least 100 people have been killed, with several hundreds injured, in a massive fire that happened at the Puttingal temple in the Indian state of Kerala.
The fire happened during the temple’s fireworks display, where thousands of people gathered together to celebrate a local new year festival. Hours into the event, an explosion occurred, killing more than 100 people.
According to the BBC, “There were scenes of chaos as emergency teams were slow in reaching the area, witnesses said. Emergency teams used bulldozers to clear the area looking for survivors. A team of specialist doctors has been sent from Delhi amid reports of horrific burns suffered by those wounded. Several people were said to be in critical condition in hospitals.“
Sources also say the temple didn’t give permission for the fireworks display to happen due to safety concerns in the past.
